Could this be the next big trend in marine?

Reina Boats, the US company behind the ‘Houseyacht’, hopes so anyway.

It’s a pretty neat idea to be fair, as it serves as both a yacht and luxury home, so you get the best of both worlds.

READ MORE! Watch as helicopter is stored inside a superyacht

After witnessing a surge in seafaring during the pandemic, company founders Hayri Dayi and Emin Günal came up with the concept.

The pair acknowledged the need for stylish vessels with plenty of space and amenities but without an astronomical price tag.

But rather than copying the idea of “outdated” floating homes, they set about designing something entirely new.

And what they’ve created is a sleek vessel that’s bound to appeal to a new wave (pardon the pun!) of discerning yachters.

“Many boats do not have the living space to provide all the accommodations and comforts people want,” Günal said in a statement.

“Power catamarans offer more volume but also have become quite expensive. That left houseboats as the only option.

“The existing houseboats were stuck in the design of the 1980s, and almost 90 percent of the houseboats on the water were commercially rented vessels.

“They were boats that yacht and catamaran owners would never consider buying.”

Reina’s line of Houseyacht vessels includes five models ranging from a floating RV to a lavish two-story overwater condo.

They’re kitted out with everything you could ever need, too, including high-quality furniture, top-tier appliances and smart-home technology.

The Houseyachts aren’t restricted to lakes and canals either – Reina’s fleet can take to the open seas, too.

But in order to do so, they’ve had to meet the U.S. Coast Guard standards.

That’s why they’ll be crafted from marine-grade aluminum and have a similar hull design to a catamaran, so should be equally as sturdy.

They’ll also be fitted with the latest generation of Mercury outboards which are supposedly greener than conventional engines.

And, instead of a generator, batteries can be used as an alternative power source to further reduce emissions.

Reina’s lineup of Houseyacht vessels will be built in Tutkey, with its first model, the Reina Live 44DR, set to make its debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October.

If you own a 49m superyacht, you might as well have somewhere to store your helicopter. There's a knack to stowing it away, though, as the video shows.

V6 superyacht has storage space beneath her deck to stow away a helicopter

If you already own a 49-meter superyacht, you might as well keep a chopper in there as well.

While many superyachts have helipads, M/Y V6 has a secure spot to hide away a helicopter.

Stowing it away isn’t straightforward, though, as this video shows.

READ MORE! Tetra is a pyramid-shaped yacht that looks like an alien spaceship

Before the helicopter can be put into storage, the crew has to fold its main rotor blades.

After that, they open the hidden storage which is built into the deck of the superyacht.

The helicopter is then carefully secured to the platform inside the hidden storage.

With the press of a button, the platform can be lowered and raised.

And when it’s lowered, the helicopter is hidden from sight beneath the deck of the superyacht.

It’s a pretty neat feature to have, but it’s not the only thing the superyacht boasts.

Launched in 2007 by the Auckland-based yard Flyghtship, V6 features naval architecture by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design, who also collaborated on the exterior lines with the Flyghtship team.

With interior lines from the drawing boards of Australian studio Anthony Bedford Design, V6 can accommodate up to 10 guests in five staterooms.

Not only that, but she has six cabins for the crew of 12, which includes the ship’s captain.

Powered by twin Wärtsilä 6L20 diesel engines with 1,096kW (1,469 hp) each, V6 can reach up to 15 knots (27 km/h / 17 mph) and cruises at 13 knots ( 24 km/h / 14 mph).

When cruising at an economical speed of 10 knots (17 km/h / 11 mph), she’s able to reach a transatlantic range of 9,000 nautical miles (16,668 km).

To achieve that range, the superyacht has to carry 127,500 liters of fuel on board.

The superyacht hasn’t always been named V6, though.

Previous known as ‘TYR’, the superyacht changed hands in February 2020 and was renamed ‘V6’.

The asking price at the time of her purchase was $16 million.

She was recently renovated and repainted in 2022.

Tetra has three hulls, and even though it's massive, it is only designed to accommodate six guests to maximize comfort and luxury.

Tetra Pyramid-shaped yacht, featured image

This pyramid-shaped spaceship lookalike is actually a superyacht.

It is a hydrofoil, which means it is designed to float above the water surface as it picks up speed.

That’s why it looks like it’s flying.

READ MORE: This superboat has 2700hp and its body is made from 100% carbon fiber

For the technically-minded people and yacht geeks out there, the vessel’s hovering appearance is due to its ‘Hydrofoil small waterplane area ship’ hull – also known as HYSWAS.

Jonathan Schwinge, the man who designed this wondrous thing, calls it ‘Tetra’, as in tetrahedron.

The name may be just a reference to its geometrical shape, but to be honest it contributes to making it even spookier.

It looks like the sort of thing aliens would use to land on planet Earth.

Tetra has three hulls, and it’s built using a carbon fiber superstructure combined with stainless steel.

It looks massive but it actually only accommodates six passengers and four crew members.

This is because Schwinge wanted to prioritize space and comfort.

When Tetra is docked, different sections of the yacht’s fold down to reveal large deck areas.

In addition to that, you also have overhead panels that expand to provide protection from the sunlight.

The bad news is Tetra is just a design studio, and there’s no mention of an actual, physical prototype as of yet.

It would certainly be built upon commission if it came to it, but you’d need somebody with a lot of cash to spend and… unusual taste when it comes to yacht design.

Mind you, as we all know the world’s billionaires are becoming richer, so  never say never.

There is about to be a new world’s largest superyacht https://supercarblondie.com/rev-worlds-largest-superyacht/ Fri, 28 Jul 2023 07:34:24 +0000 https://supercarblondie.com/?p=56731 REV will become the world's largest superyacht when it launches in 2024

After 10 years of wearing the crown, Azzam will soon lose the title of the world's largest superyacht to the 183.6m (602ft) goliath REV Ocean.

REV will become the world's largest superyacht when it launches in 2024

Time to move over Azzam, there’s a new world’s largest superyacht on its way.

That’s right, Azzam’s 10-year reign will soon be over, with the 183.6m (602ft) goliath REV due to take its crown.

REV (short for Research Expedition Vessel) is currently under construction in Norway, with an estimated delivery date of 2024.

READ MORE! The story behind Steve Jobs’ $120 million Venus superyacht

As the name suggests, the superyacht isn’t being built for a celebrity owner.

The man behind REV is in fact Kjell Inge Røkke – the majority owner of Norwegian holding company, Aker ASA.

REV will carry up to 54 scientists and 36 crewmembes to some of the most remote areas on earth when she launches next year.

This superyacht is wild – as is the price.

So, how much is the company having to stump up for REV?

Finding out the exact price superyachts cost is nay on impossible – but Forbes estimates she’s costing around $350 million.

While that seems a lot – and it is a lot – it pales in comparison to the estimated $600 million Azzam cost to build.

But it’ll be worth every cent, as the idea behind REV is as simple as it is ambitious: “To make the ocean healthy again”.

REV plans to achieve this by researching, campaigning and developing solutions for three key areas: plastic pollution, ocean acidifcation, and overfishing.

That’s why REV will be fully kitted out to research the ocean’s biggest problems, with two helicopters, five gantry cranes, and an array of manned and unmanned subs.

Said subs are capable of diving to a maximum depth of 7,500 ft via REV’s moonpool – a 7.7m x 5m opening in the center of her hull.

As well as carrying all those gadgets, REV will also house six laboratories, a 36-seat lecture auditorium, a media editing suite, a conference center, and an exhibition room.

That’s in addition to enough deck space for carrying up to 12 shipping containers.

Venus superyacht

One of the most striking superyachts ever built has been shrouded in secrecy since her inception.

But with a famous name attached to the project, she was bound to garner attention.

The Venus superyacht is a fully custom creation, built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs.

READ MORE! The annual running costs of owning a superyacht are enough to buy a mansion

Sadly, Jobs never had the chance to set foot on board before his untimely death in 2011, the year before the superyacht launched.

Venus remains in the family, now owned by his widow Laurene Powell Jobs.

This yacht isn’t only interesting because of its owner, Venus’s exterior profile is also incredibly unique.

Measuring 256 feet (78.2 meters), the exterior is dominated by a striking silver paint job, gleaming stainless-steel details, and a line of rectangular windows.

Built by Feadship and designed by Philippe Starck, she is long and lean, with an 11.8 meter beam and a low-slung superstructure made entirely of glass.

Starck designed Venus’ exterior with straight lines and 90-degree angles.

She has an axe bow, and an unusal flat, squared stern, which opens to reveal a tender garage.

The long forward deck, planked in teak, is completely free of clutter.

Notably, she has no visible radar arch or satellite equipment; all of this is hidden within a box to keep Venus’s exterior extremely clean.

Venus’s minimalist style, reminiscent of Apple products, extends to the interior, where multiple Mac computer screens line the bridge windows.

Other than glimpses into the bridge, the Venus superyacht’s interior has never been seen publicly.

It was never offered for charter or presented at trade shows, but Feadship did reveal that it has six suites offering accommodation for 12 guests, and separate quarters for 22 crew.

According to Styarck himself, the rooms are completely sound-proof and isolated from one another, so that no noise ever goes through.

Instead, guests rely on a high-tech internal communication system to communicate.

“Think Different” has been Apple’s longtime slogan, and it’s clear Jobs wanted to create something amazingly different with his iconic Venus superyacht.

Inside the ‘science yacht’ with 20 luxury cabins and 22 laboratories https://supercarblondie.com/science-yacht-earth-300/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 13:54:08 +0000 https://supercarblondie.com/?p=55879

The 'science yacht' is called Earth 300, it runs on liquid salt and it's large enough to accommodate over 400 people.

The post Inside the ‘science yacht’ with 20 luxury cabins and 22 laboratories appeared first on Supercar Blondie.]]>

This is Earth 300, a ‘science yacht’ designed to combine science and luxury, which is something you don’t hear very often.

The 300-meter (964 feet) vessel is large enough to hold 400 people and it has 22 (!) onboard laboratories to conduct different experiments.

READ MORE: Saudi Arabia wants to build an $8 billion turtle-shaped floating city

Earth 300 is certainly a unique concept.

According to Iddes Yachts, the firm that designed it, the idea is to “unite science and exploration to confront Earth’s greatest challenges”.

As you can imagine, the yacht is ‘green’ and completely emission free.

It runs on Molten Salt Reactors (MSR), a type of nuclear reactor that literally uses liquid salt as fuel.

The yacht is massive and divided into four separate sections.

You’ve got an observation deck on top of the bow, the main superstructure, and a large sphere at the beam.

In addition to this, you also have another section inside the ship, with living accommodations, a lounge area and dining space.

The bowels of the ship also have enough room for tenders and underwater vehicles and inside the sphere, you’ll find a self-sufficient city.

Iddes says the yacht can provide accommodation for 180 scientists, 20 students, 165 crew members and 40 VIP guests inside 20 luxury cabins.

The best part is this is more than just vaporware and the yacht will be eventually be built.

Iddes Yachts said it had no fixed date as of yet, but was hoping to launch the yacht by 2025.

The company also didn’t say a word about potential costs but the yacht certainly won’t be cheap.

It’s unclear whether it will be sold privately or whether it’ll be used for scientific purposes and run by one or more organizations.

Either way, we’re looking at a ballpark price of at least $500 million.

From fuel costs to dockage fees, maintenance and repairs to crew salaries, the annual costs of running a superyacht are staggering.

If you dream of winning the lottery and buying yourself a superyacht, you might want to rethink it.

Think parking a car is expensive? Clearly, you’ve never parked a yacht.

There’s a very good reason why superyachts are owned by the one percenters.

READ MORE! Superyacht employee reveals the craziest requests she’s received

While sailing the seas in the private surrounds of a superyacht sounds like bliss, there’s more to owning a one than the initial cost of buying it.

The running costs stretch well into seven figures.

Just to break it down, the annual operating cost of a superyacht is approximately 10 percent of its initial value.

Let’s break it down.

READ MORE! Man stayed at 5 star hotel for nearly two years without paying

You have to pay V.A.T. (tax) on your superyacht, which is anywhere between 15 to 25 percent of the vessel’s value.

Maintenance costs range from anywhere between $2.7 million to $4.3 million per year for an average-sized yacht of 45 meters.

On the subject of crew members, you have to pay their salaries, too, which can cost well over $1 million a year.

READ MORE! These guys just built a monowheel powered by a motorbike engine

On top of that, you have dockage fees and boat insurance, both of which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

Then there’s fuel usage to take into account – and a 71 meter yacht for example uses up to 500 liters of diesel per hour.

So, based on these figures, a 100 meter superyacht with a top speed of 25 knots and a 50-strong crew would cost around $275 million on average.

Yes, that’s as much as it would cost to buy a mansion – or several mansions for that matter.

Interestingly, many superyacht owners keep their vessels for no more than three years before selling up.

Still dream of owning a superyacht?

Superyacht crew member Giselle Azueta reveals craziest requests

This superyacht crew member has just revealed the craziest requests she’s received on board.

Giselle Azueta works on board a multi-million dollar yacht, playing host to billionaire clients.

It sounds like the dream job, right?

READ MORE! Man reveals eye-watering costs of maintaining his $5 million superyacht

Well, the gig certainly has its perks, but Azueta says it’s not all rainbows and fairy dust.

The 39-year-old stewardess has taken to TikTok to reveal some of the most bizarre, and sometimes foul requests some of her high-profile guests have made.

“On one occasion, a multimillionaire guest made a proposal that he would pay $10,000 to a crew member who defecated on top of a glass table while he lay under it,” she said.

Azueta swiftly moved on, not revealing whether one of the crew members obliged or not.

“A different guest made the request that he wanted one of the hostesses to be watching him at all times while he ate dinner,” she said.

The stewardess said she agreed to this one and stood in the corner watching while her guest ate all his meals.

Despite the nature of some of the requests, Azueta said “you can never use the word ‘no’ in the industry”.

“Any request, no matter how crazy or strange it may seem, is our duty to do so… as long as it’s not sexual or threatens the health or life of the crew,” she said.

So, does defecating on a glass table fall into that criteria?

As well as being an incredibly demanding job, Azueta said there were certain expectations on crew members.

She said superyacht owners wanted their crew to “match their yacht”, meaning the stewards and stewardesses needed to be good-looking and fit.

Despite being a superficial industry, the yachty said it was her dream job because she got to travel to some of the most beautiful places in the world while getting paid for it.

Let’s just hope she’s getting paid well.

ZRX boat

This boat can only be described as a supercar on water.

It’s called the ZRX and it’s fitted with two engines that produce a whopping 2,700 horsepower.

It’s not just incredibly fast, but it sounds like a Lamborghini Aventador when you turn it on.

You can watch (and listen to it) here!

READ MORE! Man reveals eye-watering costs of maintaining his $5 million superyacht

This vessel is full of buttons and latches that do super impressive things.

The guys from Boats Daily Official took us through the ZRX, explaining exactly how everything works.

For starters, the back engine hatch opens with the touch of a button.

“As you can see, the fit and finish is perfect,” they said.

“How this hatch fits perfectly into place, it’s super seamless and beautiful.”

The center console also opens electronically, allowing you to walk into the cabin underneath.

Inside the cabin, which is down two steps, you’ll find four bench seats and heaps of storage.

On the main deck, the ZRX is fitted with six carbon fiber bucket seats but can seat up to 10 people thanks to benches on the edges.

“You really feel like you’re sitting in a race car in this boat, it’s super comfortable,” they said.

“It grabs you and you can really feel the performance.”

The ZRX isn’t just built for high performance, it’s fitted with crazy extras to make your trips more enjoyable, including four 8-inch speakers and a 12-inch custom subwoofer.

The ZRX was, of course, built with speed in mind.

It reaches speeds of up to 240km/h (150mph), making it just about as fast as a supercar on land.

Adrenaline Powerboats describes it as “an absolute work of art”.

And we can see why because this all-carbon and epoxy vessel is in a league of its own.

ZRX power boat price

A vessel of this caliber unsurprisingly doesn’t come cheap.

The ZRX retails for a cool $735,000.

Japanese designer creates a ship that looks like a zip https://supercarblondie.com/zip-fastener-ship/ Wed, 14 Jun 2023 07:03:47 +0000 https://supercarblondie.com/?p=54525 zip fastener ship, featured image

And the zip fastener ship isn't vaporware, it's a real boat and you can use it to 'open up' rivers.

zip fastener ship, featured image

A Japanese designer has come up with the weirdest-looking ship you’ll ever see.

It was created for a design contest and in addition to the crazy shape, it also has a long and complicated name.

It’s called the Opening The River, Zip Fastener Ship.

YouTube Video

READ MORE: This 246-foot catamaran is a massive retro-futuristic supercar on water

As you can see, the ship is literally shaped like a zip fastener, the sort of thing we use to zip up our jackets or pants.

It looks unlike any other vessel in the world.

What makes this quirky project even crazier is it actually works.

You can’t sail it like a normal boat, but you can use it as a radio-controlled model.

And because it has a proper deck, you can do it from inside the ship.

This means that these pictures aren’t renders, the ship was actually photographed ‘opening up’ the Sumida River, the main river that flows through the Japanese capital Tokyo.

This, by the way, is actually the whole point of the project.

Yasuhiro Suzuki, the man who designed the ship, wanted to make it look like the ship could ‘open up’ the water.

The boat is actually quite sophisticated.

It is made from a blend of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, ethanol-based compound, foam, and recycled fishing nets

It isn’t small, either.

It’s more than 10 meters long and three meters wide.

This isn’t the first time we come across ships and yachts with crazy shapes.

Not that long ago, Bugatti unveiled a speedboat that looks like a supercar on water.

And then of course there’s Saudi Arabia’s turtle-shaped megayacht.
