A man has turned an iconic John Deere lawn mower into a surprisingly powerful go-kart.

Dave and Jake, two friends from Michigan, bond over a love of custom-made go-karts, regularly posting their passion projects online.

They recently went viral for Dave’s build where he revamped a classic John Deere lawnmower, transforming it into a racer that can reach speeds of 41mph.

After being given the lawn mower by Jake, Dave got to work on the transformation, swapping out the engine for a 15-hp Briggs and Stratton engine.

He then lowered the hood of the mower and flipped the wheels to get the proportions just right.

Dave laughs when showing his somewhat messy welding work, and he says it’s probably “not the best but it works.”

With the exterior, however, he’s taken great care to get it looking aesthetically pleasing.

After completing his build, Dave repainted the body in that trademark green, refurbished the yellow seat, and installed a pool ball as the head of the clutch.

While the mower has served him well, only needing a few replacement belts in the past two years, he does have plans to upgrade the kart.

“The biggest complaint I have is how heavy the frame is: this thing is an absolute tank,” he said.

“While it might be nice to rebuild the frame and make it lighter I probably won’t do that until I get a bigger engine,” Dave added.

His advice to anyone who wants to try and make their own go-kart?

“First you need the means for maintenance and to work on your project,” he said.

“Second, you need a place to ride it,” he explained.

Since the John Deere build the friends have turned an old-school Simplicity lawn mower into a real-life Mario Kart vehicle too.

They can regularly be seen drifting one of their many homemade go-karts around their lush backyard and the suburban streets of their neighbourhood.

And before you ask, no they don’t still cut grass.

The only things that are 'normal' are the steering wheel and the brakes.

This single-seater off-roader is made out of logs and bits of trees.

And don’t let the rugged looks fool you because the engine that powers it is a rather sophisticated hybrid.

READ MORE: Mercedes Actros truck made out of wood has working suspension and intricate interior

Built by Garage 54, a YouTube channel with a focus on weird DIY vehicles, the engineering behind this ‘car’ is mind-blowing.

First and foremost, the bodywork and the frame literally consist of tree logs.

You’ve got two longer logs that create the base of the frame and another one in front of the engine that serves as the front bumper.

There are also logs around the powertrain to protect it and to support it.

The base that supports the seat consists of two logs tied together.

Having said that, all the important bits come from a car.

The steering rack is, well, a normal steering rack.

The wheels are normal, as are the axles and brakes – apart from the fact you have to use a lever rather than a pedal to activate it.

The engine is perhaps the most interesting part.

Rather than borrowing a fully-functional powertrain from a BMW or Mercedes, Garage 54 decided to build one from scratch.

YouTube Video

The team got all the components they needed from a junkyard and got to work.

They had to make do with what they found too, which means the engine is a fruit salad of different bits that shouldn’t work together but do.

As a result, this vehicle ended up being a one-off hybrid.

Mind you, this is no ordinary hybrid, it combines two types of engine that you wouldn’t expect to find together: gas and diesel.

Honestly, we didn’t even know getting a gas-diesel hybrid to work was possible.

Then again, the very fact they built a car made of logs means the sky’s the limit.

DIY Corvette go-kart - Poorvette

This Corvette go-kart has been made from scratch using the shell of a children’s bed.

The man behind the build, Gilbert from Texas, calls his creation the ‘Poorvette’ because “when you can’t buy an actual Corvette, you build your own”.

Gilbert, who goes by gilbertr300 online, built the Poorvette with a fully detailed interior.

It has a working gear stick, steering wheel, dashboard with speedometer and tachometer, and of course, a racing seatbelt.

And to power the children’s bed, he took an engine from a Honda CBR600 F4 bike, which explains why it’s so loud.

Check out this transformation from bed to Corvette go-kart!

The Texan built the Poorvette to be able to do burnouts, donuts, and drifting and says “it’s proven it can handle that quite well”.

As for its top speed, he says “it’s probably faster than I’m willing to go in it”.

“Maybe someday I’ll take it to an eighth-mile drag strip to get a little taste of what it’s capable of doing,” he said.

Gilbert, who is a professional automotive technician, says building go-karts like the Poorvette is a beloved hobby of his.

It’s not his first crazy build either.

“I build them for fun, but I do sell them off once I’ve had my fun and am ready to move on to the next build,” he said.

Check out just how powerful the Poorvette is here!

Gilbert says there’s just one thing the little Corvette go-kart can’t do and that’s driving in reverse.

“But that’s something I can live with,” he said.

“The sound of a street bike on a go-kart is a sound that is unrivaled by any motor with reverse,” he said.

“Plus, who needs reverse when you can do a 180 drift?”

Woodworking Art - wooden Mercedes truck

This Vietnamese woodworker has created a 2023 Mercedes Actros tractor truck out of wood.

Not only is it an incredibly detailed mini replica, but he’s given it working suspension, steering, and an insanely intricate interior.

First up, the YouTuber who goes by Woodworking Art, sources a massive block of wood.

He then starts designing the truck by sketching it out on the block.

With the 2D design outlined, he uses a band saw to cut away all the excess, and with that, the truck starts to take shape.

Once he’s made all the big cuts with a band saw, he goes in with a hand chisel to create the details.

And this creator is a genius with the hand chisel.

He creates incredibly detailed pieces including the door handles, the front grille, and the cabin interior.

Speaking of the cabin, this thing is decked out with just about everything you’d find in the real truck, including incredibly detailed seats and steering wheel.

He even uses little pieces of perspex for the windows, windscreen, and side mirrors.

You can watch the full build process here!

Once he’s carved out all the pieces for the wooden Mercedes, he adds working suspension using little metal springs.

He doesn’t cut any corners either – even creating a pivoting cabin so you can access the replica engine.

In a later video, Woodworking Art creates a massive trailer for the truck too.

Speedboat made out of water-resistant duct tape defies odds and tears through waves https://supercarblondie.com/speedboat-made-out-of-water-resistant-duct-tape/ Fri, 04 Aug 2023 15:23:01 +0000 https://supercarblondie.com/?p=57380 Flex Seal made a speedboat covered in water-resistant duct tape

Companies will go to great lengths to show off the capability of their products.

One such company is Flex Seal, an American brand of adhesive bonding products.

They recently filmed a commercial featuring their new Flex Super Wide Duct Tape, and it’s both fascinating and insane in equal measures.

READ MORE! Watching this weird 18-wheel ATV move will freak you out

The company recently posted behind-the-scenes footage giving a glimpse into the making of the commercial.

It features Phil Swift, CEO and face of Flex Seal, supported by the Flex Seal Crew.

Now, before we get into what the commercial entailed, we have to say that what the team did was for demonstration purposes only.

It was performed in a controlled environment by a team of professionals, too.

The YouTube video shows Swift and the Crew putting the duct tape through a true strength test.

They did this by using the super-strong, special duct tape to lift a 550lb safe.

Using a winch, the safe lifted up off the ground and amazingly, when it was lowered and the tape was removed and reapplied, they lifted it again with ease.

Sounds crazy, but what they did next took it to a whole new level.

Swift and his Crew constructed a steel frame for a speedboat and wrapped it in duct tape.

Obviously, they had to do their research before embarking on such an ambitious project.

This involved researching how boats should look and ride, and they came out with a design for the speedboat.

It also required creating an entirely smooth surface across the entire boat, as one tiny imperfection could result in catastrophic failure.

After all the prep, the team were ready to take to the water with the speedboat made out of water-resistant duct tape.

Much to everyone’s surprise, the speedboat took to water like a duck, tearing through the waves.

The speedboat even managed to jump up out of the water without issue.

Although we wouldn’t advise having a go yourself, the video’s certainly worth watching!

The insect-looking ATV uses its 18 wheels, which act like tank tracks, to tackle seriously tough terrain.

18-wheel ATV

The vast majority of people are freaked out by creatures with too many legs or eyes.

And at first sight, this 18-wheel ATV triggers similar emotions.

But while it might look like a centipede, it’s actually a crazy custom ATV.

READ MORE! This guy just built his very won car out of scrap metal

The ATV was created by 18 Wheels – a company based in Helsinki, Finland.

Now, what the Finnish don’t know about ATVs isn’t worth knowing ( they know what they’re doing).

What they’ve conjured up here is an electric-powered off-road rig with a motor in each of its 18 wheels.

That’s where it gets its name.

Its design – which is unique to say the least – allows it to roll over obstacles up to 7.8 inches (19.8 centimeters) high and do it at speed.

Tree trunks, rocks, curbs – you name it – can all be crested by the machine.

How so? Well, its nifty suspension design makes its wheels act almost like tank treads.

The really clever bit is, it’s designed to travel off-road without damaging the surface it’s riding on.

The real reason it has 18 wheels is because it massively reduces the ground pressure of the vehicle by spreading the weight across a much larger area.

It also further reduces impact on the terrain as its wheels fold back and then roll over obstacles.

The 18-wheel ATV makes easy work of some pretty tough terrain.

In the video above, it manages to scramble across huge piles of jagged rocks, drive through shallow water, and even bounce over fallen tree trunks.

Apparently, the guys behind the crazy 18-wheel ATV are already working on a second prototype to iron out some issues identified in testing.

There’s no denying the ATV’s off-roading capabilities – you just need to get over its strange insect-like appearance.

Kelvin built this car from scratch using scrap metal he found in junkyards. It also has a working speedometer, RPM gauge, and functioning gull-wing doors.

The post This guy just built his very own car out of scrap metal appeared first on Supercar Blondie.]]>

This is Kelvin Odartei Cruickshank and he just spent the past five years building a car from scratch.

Kelvin grew up in Ghana and he has no engineering degree to speak of, or any degree for that matter.

But that hasn’t stopped him from building his very own, fully functioning vehicle.

You can watch the full vid here!

Kelvin’s passion for engines and machines started early.

When he was just 10, he said he spent all his free time in his family’s garage building little robots, toy planes, and vacuum cleaners.

He didn’t have money to buy the pieces he needed, instead, he used bits and pieces of discarded metal he found in town.

Kelvin eventually graduated from building gadgets in his parents’ garage and set his sights on something much bigger.

He started visiting local car shops to learn how they were made and got to work collecting useful scrap metal from junkyards.

He said he found almost everything he needed for the DIY car, except for the engine.

For that, he worked a few different part-time jobs and saved his earnings to buy a motorbike engine.

Kelvin says in total, he spent less than $3,000 on the car, including the engine.

After five years of hard work, the project was finally finished.

And it’s pretty remarkable.

It has everything you’d find in an average car, including the steering wheel, gearstick, rearview mirror, and even a built-in radio for music.

It also has a working speedometer, RPM gauge, and functioning gull-wing doors.

To finish it off, Kelvin painted it bright turquoise blue, lined the interior with LED lights, gave it an imitation air intake at the front, a massive wing at the back, and a badge.

The logo says Kelsus, after the name of the car, which he’s called the Kelsus P1, and has a running horse (look out Mustang and Ferrari).

Kelvin isn’t stopping there either.

He has big ambitions.

The young Ghanaian told supercarblondie.com he has his sights set on renewable projects next.

“My vision is to build a renewable product for transportation and everyday living,” he said.

YouTuber builds a miniature house

It takes lots of skill to build a house.

Interestingly, the same skill – and materials – can be used to build a miniature house.

YouTuber OUROBOROSARQ just built a mini house with real building materials and the detail he puts into it is incredible.

READ MORE! This dad just built the Ford F-150 Raptor entirely out of wood

He’s published multiple videos showing the different stages of construction of the mini house, and they’re going viral.

Just like the real thing, he lays down a concentrate and rebar foundations, erects beams and walls, lays bricks, and installs tiled roofs on the tiny dwellings.

These 1:10 scale structures are similar to dollhouses and architectural models.

However, the main difference is they aren’t prefabricated models made of plastic and cardboard put together following a manual.

Instead, their step-by-step construction involves using “real” materials and techniques: from the foundational trenches to miniature bricks, formwork, etc.

Many of the tools used are also to scale, too, as are the concrete, custom-made windows, and doors.

In one of OUROBOROSARQ’s videos, the YouTuber goes through the 10 steps involved in building a house.

These are actual steps to building a real house, but he applies the same principles .

He starts by preparing the “site” for construction, excavating and levelling the ground, and constructing the foundations of the house

Next, he frames the skeleton, which involves putting the walls, beams, and roof into place, and building room divisions.

At this stage, you’d install electrical and plumbing systems in the house.

After that, you’d install insulation in the walls, roof, and floor, to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer.

Next up, the YouTuber applies exterior finishes to the house to give it an aestethic look achieved by installing wall cladding, roof covering, and windows.

He even adds interior finishes like wall cladding, flooring, doors, molding, and paint.

Clearly very talented, it’s super cool watching the YouTuber put his skills to good use.

Wood Ford F150

A Vietnamese woodworker has created a Ford F-150 Raptor out of wood and it looks like an exact replica.

Dao Truong Van built the wooden pickup truck for his father, finishing it in just 150 days.

Mr Dao left no stone unturned with the level of detail he put into the car, and the result is out of this world.

READ MORE! Vietnamese dad creates beautiful wooden replica of the Audi Skysphere

Not only is the wooden replica muscular in shape, but it also has the same design features seen on the real thing, including a large honeycomb grille sporting ‘Ford’ badging.

He also gave the front of the pickup a set of LED lights and a set of chunky off-roading tires.

In the video (scroll down to watch) Mr Dao shows the build process from start to finish.

First, he fabricates a chassis from metal which he welds together.

Then he adds an axle to the rear and attaches the front wheels with working suspension.

Next, Mr Dao fabricates a metal frame for the pickup which he sprays black.

He then makes a rough body for the Ford F-150 Raptor using timber and perfects the shape with a chainsaw and angle grinder.

Mr Dao’s attention then turned to the interior, where he whittled the dashboard from wood.

As well as a mock infotainment system, the dash includes fake air vents and a steering wheel made to look like the real thing.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, the woodworker then set about crafting a pair of wooden ‘Raptor’ branded front seats for the pickup.

After adding various exterior trim pieces, including the front grille and wing mirrors, Mr Dao then applied a coat of varnish to the wooden bodywork.

All that was then left to do was install the front and rear lights, and some plexiglass for the windows, and the Ford F-150 Raptor was good to go.

While it’s not quite as big as the real thing, Mr Dao’s interpretation of the Ford F-150 Raptor is impressive nonetheless.

His father was pretty impressed with it, too, as he’s seen driving along a dirt track in his new pickup.

This guy just built the world’s smallest bicycle and it’s fully functional https://supercarblondie.com/worlds-smallest-bicycle/ Tue, 27 Jun 2023 15:33:39 +0000 https://supercarblondie.com/?p=55260 World's smallest bicycle

Despite its small proportions, the world's smallest bicycle is fully functional and can actually carry a cyclist weighing up to 100kg.

The post This guy just built the world’s smallest bicycle and it’s fully functional appeared first on Supercar Blondie.]]>
World's smallest bicycle

The Q is back at it again and this time he’s building the world’s smallest bicycle.

The Q has made quite the name for himself, posting videos of his seriously epic inventions to YouTube.

From a square-wheeled bicycle to wheels made out of hot glue sticks, no matter how bizarre his creations appear, they work seamlessly.

READ MORE! This man just built new wheels out of hot glue sticks

Normally, the YouTuber works on regular-sized bicycles, but today he’s doing something different.

He starts by taking two 72mm wheels, the same found in roller skates, and inserts two bearings into what will be the bicycle’s front wheel.

The Q then fabricates a cog for the back wheel.

He does this by placing a bearing on top of the cog and slotting a brass cheese head screw through the middle.

To ensure the bearing and cog turn in tandem, he spot welds the two together, using an angle grinder to smooth off the welds.

With the wheels now sorted, The Q then sketches a design for the world’s smallest bicycle on a sheet of A4.

Checking everything is the right size and fits together correctly, he places pre-cut pieces of pipe over the design.

These are going to be assembled to form the bicycle’s frame.

He does this by welding the pieces of pipe together and attaching the bicycle’s rear wheel.

Next, The Q has to fabricate forks for the front wheel.

He does this by using an angle grinder to cut multiple V-shaped notches out of a metal rod.

What he does next is both clever and incredibly satisfying to watch.

With the metal rod held firmly in place in a vice, he slides a piece of metal pipe over the top of it.

One by one, he bends the V-shaped notches closed until the metal rod resembleworlds-smallest-bicycles that of the bicycle’s front front.

In order to attach the front wheel, though, he needs to drill a hole through the fork for the hub to slide through.

His next task is to build a set of handlebars for the world’s smallest bicycle.

Once again, these are fabricated from solid metal and bent into shape and sanded to give the surface a smooth finish.

After filing and sanding the frame of the bicycle, the next step is to spray it bright yellow.

The seat, handlebars, crankset and pedals are all sprayed black, however.

With the paint dried, The Q sets about putting all the pieces together and tests the chain is working correctly.

Last but not least – and ironically – he adds a set of ‘Big Boy’ decals to the world’s smallest bicycle.

With it good to go, he doesn’t waste any time and quickly hops onto the bicycle to take it for a little spin.

Amazingly, with a custom-made metal frame and roller wheels, the world’s smallest bicycle is durable and compatible with a cyclist up to 100kg.

That being said, The Q says it’s a little uncomfortable, but you get a lot of attention when riding it.

We wouldn’t pull a wheelie if we were you, Q.

You can watch the process from beginning to end here!
