Barbie and Oppenheimer have finally hit the screens and they’re both doing better than expected at the box office.

Some people call this the ‘greatest double bill’ of all time, and they’ve even created a Twitter hashtag for it: Barbenheimer.

Both movies were released on the same day, July 21, and filmed on a similar budget in excess of $100 million.

Barbenheimer has made about $511 million worldwide and $235 million domestically in three days.

This is the fourth-highest grossing weekend debut in Hollywood history, and the only that doesn’t involve Disney or Marvel.

Barbie raked in about $155 million domestically and $182 million domestically.

At the time of writing, on July 24, the movie has grossed $337 million.

Oppenheimer has been a bit slower to rack up the numbers, having ‘only’ made $174 million so far.

Even though they’re blockbuster films with a stellar cast and Oscar-nominated directors, these two movies couldn’t be more different.

Barbie tells the story of the eponymous world famous doll as she and Ken struggle to adjust to the real world.

Oppenheimer tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the ‘father’ of the atomic bomb as we know it.

Budget-wise, Barbie actually cost more to make than Oppenheimer, despite the latter having a more ‘expensive’ cast.

Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell, cost $145 million.

Meanwhile, Oppenheimer cost $100 million.

And the cast? In random order: Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Jason Clarke, Jack Quaid.

It’s a long list, and it goes on.

Lest we forget, there’s another major Hollywood blockbuster that’s been released just a few days ago and that’s Dead Reckoning.

The latest (and second-to-last) installment to the Mission: Impossible saga cost a whopping $291 million to make.

So far it has grossed $370+ million in about a week.
