Elon Musk demands Cybertruck is built to ‘sub 10-micron accuracy’ in leaked email

'If LEGO can do this, so can we'.

An email Elon Musk sent to Tesla employees has been leaked.

In the email, Musk highlighted the need for incredibly high standards of quality when it came to building the Cybertruck.

“Due to the nature of the Cybertruck, which is made of bright metal with mostly straight edges, any dimensional variation shows up like a sore thumb,” he said.

“All parts for the vehicle, whether internal or from suppliers, need to be designed and built to sub 10-micron accuracy.

“That means all part dimensions need to be to the third decimal place in millimeters and tolerances need to be specified in single-digit microns.”

Musk went on to say that “if LEGO and soda cans, which are very low cost, can do this, so can we”.

In leaked photos of the Cybertruck, the vehicle has appeared with obvious panel gaps and alignment issues over the years.

They haven’t gone unnoticed either.

In this photo released just last month, the first production truck is surrounded by dozens of grinning employees, celebrating the milestone.

But keen-eyed viewers noticed what appeared to be a misaligned door.

And if you look closely, the passenger doors don’t quite line up.

Considering it was supposed to be a promotion opportunity for Tesla, the photo went viral for all the wrong reasons.

Despite this, it only served to create more hype for the truck.

The Cybertruck finally appears to be nearing production, a long three years after it was initially slated for delivery.

The Tesla CEO has been working hard to keep the Cybertruck front of mind recently.

He just shared a photo of him behind the wheel of the vehicle, describing it as the company’s “best product ever”.

The final specs and pricing are expected to be revealed at the delivery event, but we don’t have a date for that yet.

Nor do we have an official release date for the truck, or a price.

All we know is Musk said it’ll cost a bit more than $39,900, which is the price tag that was suggested during the 2019 unveil.
